Privacy Policy — CaptionCraft AI
What this app collects
CaptionCraft AI does not collect any personal information from you. The app does not have user accounts, does not ask for your name or email, and does not record your behavior on a server we control.
| Data | Collected? | Stored where |
|---|---|---|
| Name, email, account info | No | — |
| Device location | No | — |
| The photo you choose | Read only into app memory when you pick it via Android’s system photo picker | App memory while you are using the Generate screen; a 320-pixel-wide JPEG thumbnail is saved on your device only if you tap Save on a caption |
| Image labels detected by ML Kit (e.g. “cat”, “beach”) | Computed entirely on your device by Google ML Kit’s on-device image-labeling model; sent as plain-text keywords to the caption text API | Not retained by CaptionCraft AI; not retained as an image |
| Captions you save to History | Saved locally on your device only | App-private storage (files/captions/) |
| Crash logs / analytics | No | — |
How captions are generated
When you tap Generate, the app:
- Runs Google ML Kit’s on-device image-labeling model on the photo you picked to produce a short list of label keywords (for example “dog”, “grass”, “sky”). The photo never leaves your device for this step.
- Sends those keyword labels — together with the caption style you picked (Funny, Inspirational, Hashtags, etc.) — as plain text to Pollinations’ free public text API at
https://text.pollinations.ai/openai. Your actual photo is not uploaded. - Receives a list of generated caption suggestions, which the app shows on the Generate screen.
If you tap the bookmark icon on a caption, the caption text and a small 320-pixel-wide JPEG thumbnail of your photo are written to the app’s private storage on your device. The thumbnail is never uploaded anywhere; it is only used to identify the saved caption in the History tab.
AI-generated content disclosure
Captions are generated by a third-party large language model. AI suggestions can be inaccurate, repetitive, or occasionally awkward. Always review a caption before posting it on social media. CaptionCraft AI and the developer are not responsible for the content of generated captions.
Network connections
All filters, the History tab, and ML Kit’s image-labeling run entirely on your device. The internet is used for: (1) Google AdMob to load ads (see “Advertising” below), and (2) sending image keyword labels + style to Pollinations when you tap Generate (see above). The app requires an active internet connection to open — you will see a “No internet connection” screen when offline.
Permissions the app requests
- Internet / network state — required to request ads and to call the Pollinations caption text API.
The app does not request the READ_MEDIA_IMAGES permission, location, contacts, microphone, camera, notifications, or any other sensitive permission. Photo selection uses Android’s system Photo Picker, which is permission-free.
Advertising
CaptionCraft AI shows ads provided by Google AdMob in four formats: banner (small strip at the bottom of every screen), interstitial (occasional full-screen ad after several generations), app-open (full-screen ad when you bring the app back to the foreground), and rewarded (an optional full-screen ad you can choose to watch in exchange for an extra generation past the per-session free allowance). Google’s advertising SDK collects and processes limited data — for example, your device’s advertising identifier and approximate IP-based location — to serve and measure ads. This is governed by Google’s policies:
If you live in a region where consent is required (the EEA, UK, Switzerland, or a US state with applicable privacy law), the app uses Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP) or sets npa=1 (non-personalized ads) so it stays compliant with GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA.
Children
This app is not directed at children under 13 and is not classified as a “family” app on Google Play.
